It is a phrase cheesy, but I really buy into the "romantic rail travel". I was in the evening with someone about night train travel chat, and he the nail on the head met: they force you to slow down, and this is her beauty. You are not hurry to get anywhere, you're not about to be all too late and there literally is nothing you expected. Even if you are on vacation, try to the relax and unwind it often, that niggling voice on the back of your head, you say, explore, see some of the country that you visit. But if you are on a long train ride, that voice silenced: your time is absolutely 100% sell to do as you want, and this is a wonderful sensation and allows you, really relax.
South Africa has two world famous luxury trains, that the ultimate indulgence for the traveller who looking for a special, unique experience are: the blue train and Rovos rail. You run mainly the rail between Pretoria and Cape Town, although other trips are possible and stays in the North and South of the country provide a wonderful way to. It is a relaxing alternative to fly: no queues check, no endless security checks aren't afraid, that could be in addition to sat. You have your own private cabin used as somewhere to sit during the day and at night, you sleep, although also lounge and observation observe it cars, where you can relax with a refreshing drink, the landscape of slip and your fellow passengers something to know.
Both the blue train and Rovos rail offer excursions train: so as also to see it pass by the window, you can claim legitimately, to see some of South Africa (to the Finally, that niggling voice remain silent!). Excursions are offered in Kimberley and Matjiesfontein. Kimberley is famous as the diamond mining town where Cecil John Rhodes some his fortune among the prospectors, characters and villains made the diamond rush. The legacy of the time is clear - dug a big hole, the large open cast diamond mine, by hand and now at the heart of a new Museum, the sights and sounds of diamond rush Kimberley. Matjiesfontein is a more polite, a Victorian city that seems frozen in time. An old double-decker bus tours historic buildings before depositing you at the Lord Milner for a quick drink in the 19th century before the end of turn.
One of the most common questions that asks me is the difference between the two trains, and "which is better?". The truth is that they are both excellent and both different experiences, offer so that it really depends on your preferences - but it is almost certain that one will offer exactly what you want from them. I have in fact on both traveled and I would jump only on the chance of getting back on board either of them.
The blue train is a modern, comfortable, quick and quiet. It takes approximately 24 hours between Pretoria and Cape Town, performed by high-tech features with advanced suspension and sound-insulating preserved. You have a trip to the North and Kimberley travel, travel South Matjiesfontein.
Rovos rail operates lovingly restored rolling stock from around the turn of 19/20th century, all warm wood and polished brass. You spend two nights on board between Pretoria and Cape Town and stop at the Matjiesfontein and Kimberley in both directions. Steam engines pull in and out of the Rovos private station in City Park in Pretoria, although diesel but this short distance of the journey are used for all.
The blue train is probably the better option for those that more time be pressed, or the need for a ride, quiet. Rovos rail is the answer for those who want to recreate age of rail travel as their story and something in the Grand. Both offer excellent food and a fine dining atmosphere and are the ones by the attentive array of Butler, barmen and waiters, which you may also could hope, occupied.
