Surf Travel to South Africa

Arriving in Cape Town is over whelming, the first thing you notice is the warmth and friendly attitude to you the surfer. This country has been through so much in the past 30 years and it has always been my dream to set foot on its soil to surf the glorious waves that caress its shores daily. South Africa is blessed with some of the best and most consistent surf the world has to offer. Couple this with the mild climate and you have a surfing paradise. During the South African winter the coastline is supplied with almost endless groundswell and offshore winds due to the constant flow of cold front activity in the southern Atlantic. So as a surfer arriving from a rainy Oregon to find warmth and amazing surf is a dream come true.
The tour I was on, involved sessions at numerous South African premier surf spots which include Jeffrey's Bay, Seal Point, Victoria Bay, Bruce's Beauties and as well as many other spots that "crank" in winter. Dylan collected me after arrival and we were all packed up to head off along the coast. South African surfers are always so stoked it is amazing and Dylan was no acceptation to that rule and assured me that he had a thorough knowledge of surfing in the area and that he was our tour guide. Furthermore he practically guaranteed me that I will get to the respective spots when they are at their best, he just fell short in advising me he had arranged the swell as well.
As we arrived at the lodge on the outskirts of town I was greeted by the other surfers on the tour who had arrived a day or two earlier. Dylan whispered in my ear and ensured me with an eager smile that the tour remains personal and that by limiting the number of people on each tour guarantees we all get a great time. Like all South African's he is proud of the countries surf and then could not refrain from telling me yet again for the 5th time that he would ensure I surfed as many African barrels as possible. Umm.... I went to bed with that thought. My second day started with Dylan taking the tour to a place at Muzuimbrug, an ideal spot he assured me to get acquainted to African Waves. 'Muzies' as it is known, is renowned for its rolling and very consistent A-Frame waves and endless stretch of beach. Whilst Dylan provided surf lessons for some learners on the tour I paddled out the back to enjoy some glass morning surf.
After a hearty lunch we set off on an orientation tour of the stunning Cape Peninsula, Dylan believed this would help us get our bearing on the land and we also had a visit to the Cape Point Nature reserve as well as Cape Towns more famous tourist sights including a visit to boulders beach where wild penguins happily play.
The morning of day 3 was an important one for me personally as I could not wait to set out on our first port of call which was a 65-meter bungee at Gouritz. This is optional on the tour but it's highly recommended to get you stoked and ready for the adventure that lies ahead and I was game for it. If you plan on doing the worlds highest one later in the trip, I suggest you do this one first to get a feel for it! I did not opt for the higher...
Along the way we stopped at Mossel Bay for a surf session, there was a selection of 3 breaks to choose from, Inner and Outer Pool as well as Ding Dangs. Depending on the conditions and your standard the surf guides will take you to the one with most zest, and they selected one just fine for me.
Inner Pool's wave breaks very close to famed outer Pool off a section of rocks, walls up when at its best and is usually surfed when Outers is flat. Outer Pool Gets large and challenging in solid winter swell but is usually surfed when clean and orderly in light westerly winds. Outer offers a cooking right hand reef break with a solid wall and a long ride. Ding Dang's a fun hotdog wave that works when winter swell wraps around cape St Blaise.
After the surf, we set off on the road again, the most beautiful scenery as we enter the 'Garden Route' is breath taking and most of us all sighed with disbelief at the views and the panorama that was unrolling ahead of us. Depending on the time of year, apparently the guides can surprise the group and dive for some crayfish (Cape Rock lobster) along the way for the evening dinner, this was not the case for my tour but I gather it can be the norm.
It's up early to get the best swell the next morning and we all opted to head for a spot called Buffalo Bay Point - a very similar wave to Bruce's Beauties that too me was going to be the highlight of the tour and was to come so I took this as a trial event. The point can get superlative in the right conditions by all accounts and before leaving the US I had heard great reports of the conditions that can be found here so was please to see a perfect 3ft day.
That evening we checked into another local surf lodge, and zipped out for and evening surf! We headed off to a place I had dreamed of since first seeing the movie Endless Summer - Bruce's Beauties - it breaks a lot more often than is thought of and is by know means a gentle long boarders paradise. When cooking, Bruce's is a screaming right hand point that freight trains along a jagged line of rocks. "Get ready for mean gaping barrels" Dylan shouted as he disappeared into the water, leaving the rest of us half changed, running and falling every other step! It was just like a clip from the movie here I was about to hit the surf of Endless Summer.
The next day I found it very difficult to get up to be honest, three great days of epic surf and with another few more to comes I just could not cope... my body was feeling the flight and the perfect surf of the night before. So rather than surf I just joined the tour to watch the rest of the group under a go some lessons on the beach and sat back enjoying the wild environment that seemed as if Portland and US Airports was just a forgotten memory. I could not believe that only 90+ hours ago I was crammed into a bus in Portland with a huge longboard knocking everyone that moved. Now I lay head back on the sand listening to the sounds of sea birds and knowing that I am totally at peace and having the best surf trip in my life. Sure I have surfed some amazing spots but to surf a spot I have seen over a thousand time son video and then to actually enjoy it going off better than in the film was beyond even my wildest thoughts of surfing in South Africa.
After a few more days of touring and surfing spots such as Boneyards, Supertubes, Salad bowls, J-Bay, Tubes, Point and Albatross it was time to start to head back in the direction of the Cape. Everyone on the tour had become exhausted and tired but we were now a travelling surf family too tired to talk but desperate for one more last surf before the Cape and we were not disappointed as slowly we drove towards Buffalo Bay again and it was just as we left it, perfect...
As we drove in to Cape Town the next day Dylan turned to us all and said "How about Sky diving, or Paragliding? - We can even arrange a shark dive if you wish!" - in a great chorus we all said "shut up man... we are exhausted!" The one thing you can say about South African's they are a great friendly bunch and the stoke of surfing runs deep in there veins.
The beauty of the tour I think was summed up by the people on it, from 6 surfers who were learning to surf for the first time and having lessons daily to the rest of us who ranged from beginner to advanced. We all surfed well and all experienced the conditions first hand. We all had our own experiences and that is something all of us will take away and is our surf memory - an amazing surf trip.

I travelled with Xoxxi (http://www.xoxxisurf.com/) which is a surf brand run by regular surfers for regular surfers and they were very helpful in this unique travel surfing experience. Travel to South Africa - to visit the de Wildt Cheetah-Center

Most people travel to Africa, to take a look at the plentiful game. An experience in Africa is not complete without some visit their refuge wildlife sanctuaries. While in South Africa, you have the de Wildt Cheetah Center tour.
The Cheetah Center is about 50 minutes from Johannesburg, whether to go it by private car, bus or taxi. Once in the middle of a tour guide drives visitors around the Park in a large green Safari truck. The tour takes about 3 hours and a group to join or a private tour once in the Park to enjoy. You must call and book in advance, expect to pay around $ 35 for the base group tour. Tours are available at the morning or afternoon most days.
While touring the Center, my personal favorites were the cheetahs and wild dogs. I was fascinated by the chirping of the Cheetah made noises. You use to call this sound their young and communicate with each other. There were also several other types of animals including hyenas, meerkats, and vultures.
Keep in mind the children under 6 not on the tour due to the close calls between the Cheetah and children despite adult supervision may. A tour guide explained that a Cheetah trying prey up to the truck on a child jumped unsuccessful, of course. The Cheetah opts for smaller prey such as the Gazelle, Impala, rabbits and wild birds. So if you are more than 5 feet tall, they are almost certainly as a Cheetah considered to try too much work to reduce.
One of the tour guides said, as breeding habitat is the de Wildt Cheetah Center the animals and they sell the animals in zoos and wildlife reserves. Are you working populations hard to preserve and further the genetic diversity in the Cheetah and wild dog.
De Wildt Cheetah Center has a history, a family business started as a weekend, then and finally young animals, which were saved, and then removed from the farm evolved into a rescue Center for injured animals, including finally two cheetahs.
The desired by chance a nearby Zoo cheetahs in captivity to breed. The Zoo realized they could in a do this and amount of storage space for such a project to take. You agreed to turn over a Cheetah, de Wildt estates, Cheetah Center down.
Since then, the Center opened his country to tours, helps not only raise much needed funds, but help instill a love and respect of the resident animals at all those who are privileged to the Center-tour.

10 Tips for safer travel in South Africa

This article could have been title 10 tips for safe travel to South Africa, but it comes to the rainbow nation secure a Word, is the the connection either everyday or the experience of travellers, which is difficult in the sights.
Although crime statistics over the last decade (but rises slightly in 2009) improved have, South Africa still retains one of the world's highest crime rates. It is not just the amount of crime, which is the concern, but the share is this crime, the violent in nature. In a recent address Parliament declared a bigger problem with violent crimes than any other country in the World South African President Jacob Zuma, South Africa (a declaration has, which hosted the World Cup in the year, the South Africa). Travel this country is an amazing experience but a journey that must be done with care.
The following 10 tips to help you travel safer in South Africa.
10. Security begins at the airport.
From the main terminal at airports Johannesburg International Airport is not particularly safe. Thieves, pickpockets and other low life stalk area looking for something to not nailed down. Note your possessions and exit stage left as quickly as possible.
9. Cars are to circumvent one of the safest options.
Apart from an organised tour is the surest way to rent motorized to probably around the country. Nevertheless, everyone has the carjacking heard horror stories (there are 250 police abductions in investment side solely dedicated to), and precautions must be taken. Not at night, let go a gap of inch or so on your drivers side window (the window smash difficult), you keep your doors locked (central locking system is a must) and at the traffic light alert, as this occur the usual venue for auto Jackings.
8. Travel in a group does not guarantee security.
While travelling in large numbers will certainly help you are not assuming that you or your group are not aligned. Always be aware what's going on and not too much stray from the Pack.
7. Watch your posessions.
Theft of valuables from your hotel or hostel is very often (as in other parts of the world). Not too much to South Africa take attempts that you would be not too upset to lose, and to keep valuables safely hidden.
6. Avoid alone travellers.
Not hiking from quiet down side streets, deserted beaches and dark areas to avoid at all times and under all circumstances. South Africa is actually better with a friend or two where you enjoyed you post.
5. Read not the newspaper.
After a few months of the country, I stop to read the local and national papers; It started me freak out. Crimes that hardly at home would be front page rate a mention, and those who are are pretty terrible. Here just a little bit ignorance can be bliss.
4. Always ask you, the local.
Keep a close ear for advising local and hotel owner where and where not to go. The security situation can quickly change from street to street. Local search is travel really a key to securely as you.
3) Try to avoid public transport.
It is a decent network of backpacker buses, and car hire is cheap and a safer way to go. The mini buses can use dodgy, little to no security standards (and perhaps driven to name local gangs) are. May meet more of the local on the bus, but this is maybe better done in the pub.
2. If you are planning, surfing or swimming gently.
Note, that is South Africa is home to a healthy and hungry population of great white sharks. Sign up at certain times of the year are against swim advice or surfing at some beaches due to the "sardine run" a time when the large white are particularly active. Please!
(1) You are not alerted but warnings.
While all of this from putting sound like South Africa is still a great and unforgettable place to visit. Time spent here can be a life-changer in the most positive way, as long you keep your wits about you.

New travelers to Africa-opinion

If you're from the West and your thinking of travelling to Africa for the first time or for a holiday, or to meet someone you've met from a dating website, then congratulations! If you've been before you can probably ignore all this, but if it's your first time, then it might be of use to you.
Firstly, you're a lucky person. Not many people can afford to travel to Africa, it's a long-haul flight in most cases and a lot of Africans would like to be going the other way! Now, do you have family there? Are you meeting someone for the first time? Are you going on a package tour? If you've got family or you're going on a package tour, most things like where you'll stay and your safety will be taken care of.
How are you travelling?
If you are going alone, then its best to make sure that the person you are meeting at the other end is genuine and you trust that person. If you're not sure, make a contingency plan in case you get into trouble. Find out where your country embassy is in that country and their phone number. If you're worried try and make a number of bookings yourself, such as your hotel. A lot of hotels will take email bookings but you can use cheap international calls to phone up a hotel to make your reservation. You'll be charged a lot if you book into a Sheraton or Holiday Inn however, and sometimes those places can be strict, especially they will charge you more if you bring a guest to your room.
Health
Before you go make sure you've had your relevant jabs. There are certain health risks, the most significant of which are Malaria and HIV/AIDS. Take a trip to your travel clinic, GP or doctor and get the relevant jabs. These can take weeks to get, so its best to plan in advance or you may want to find a private travel clinic. Even if you are of African origin, its best to be sure since viruses and other bugs mutate over time and when you might previously have been immune, you might not be to more recent viruses.
Malaria
Check if your travelling to a malarial area. Get the relevant anti-malarial medication from your doctor, and take it. Malaria is a killer and its best not to mess about. And get an idea of the symptoms of malaria so you can recognise it in case you catch it anyway. The general symptoms include headache, nausea, fever, vomiting and flu-like symptoms, although these symptoms may differ depending on the type you've contracted. Malaria can come on several months after returning from an infected area, and if you get ill after you come back, make sure you mention to any doctor treating you that you've been to a malarial area.
Sexual Health
If you're intending to be sexually active then take condoms with you. Some people slur the standard of African condoms however, they are generally of a high standard and can be bought readily and cheaply in most African countries. Diseases such as HIV/AIDS, Syphilis, Gonorrhoea are common. HIV/AIDS, while treatable in the west, is still one of the major killers in Africa, so take care. If you're going to get married then you can take all the relevant tests then, in the meantime simply play safe. That's use CONDOMS!
If it turns our you or your partner are HIV positive, its not the end of the world and there are organisations out there to help you cope with the diagnosis and help you find the course of action you are most comfortable with.
Country Background
Most developed countries will have detailed country information for travellers available over the internet. The most extensive of these are with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in the UK, and the US Department of State. Read them and absorb them but take them with a pinch of salt as they can scare the living crap out of you and put you off travelling. In the bureaucrat's world, everything foreign is bad and everything indigenous is good. For example, you might find warnings against travelling to Bali due to terrorist activity, but not to Spain, although both countries were attacked by al-Qaida terrorists.
Basically your government is risk averse and doesn't want to get sued for giving wrongful advice, for example if you based your trip abroad on favourable country advice and then got bombed, you might be able to sue them. So bear that in mind. For example the FCO still advises on Kenya that "Do not accept food or drink from strangers as it may be drugged" although there is no evidence of Kenyan locals running around with drugged sweets forcing them into foreigners mouths, and it may even be based on a rumour that is several years old.
However, before I run the risk of pooh-poohing the whole country reports system, they do contain valuable information and valuable warnings. It's a good idea to read them and familiarise yourself with the contents and the particular thing that you MUST take notice of, such as health information, visa requirements and do's and don'ts.
Money
The banking system in Africa generally does not provide as many services as you may expect in a Western country. You might be able to use credit cards and your current bank cards in come countries, but not in others. You may be able to use your bank card in certain establishments, or there may be just one. For example, if you wanted to make a cash withdrawal on your credit card in Uganda (last time I was there), there was only one places you could do it: Barclays Bank on Kampala Road. On the other hand, throughout Kenya you can use a UK bank card in the machines there. You'll need to check it out. Speak to your bank.
Avoid taking travellers cheques. These are widely used in fraudulent activities and many places will not accept them. You might not be able to change up into local currency before you travel (you still can't buy Zambian Kwacha in the UK!) and might not get good exchange rates anyway.
It's best to take cash, in such currencies as British Pounds, Euros or US Dollars. The US Dollar is the most widely accepted. Take how much you are going to need and an extra 100 to 200 for contingencies. A lot of people in Africa will instantly convert their prices to US dollars for foreigners anyway, and the dollar is especially useful if you are travelling outside major capital cities where the only foreign money banks will take will be the US Dollar. So, even if you're travelling with Pounds or Euros, its best to get a few US Dollars to be on the safe side. Another thing to take account of is that some countries had a lot of fake US bills distributed after the Iraq wars and may even refuse US Bills which are dated before 1999. So get US Bills which are dated 2000 and later if you are unsure.
Keep your money safe. Don't put it all in the same place and don't put any in your suitcase. If you're out and about put some money in each pocket. Africans like stuffing it in their socks so you might want to put some there as well. Check if your hotel or accommodation has security for passports and money and use them if necessary. Bigger hotels will have a safe in the rooms.
Travel Insurance
Don't ask. Just get it. On one trip to South Africa I was set fire to in a barbecue accident (DON'T light barbecues with petrol) and robbed at gunpoint in central Johannesburg a week later - they took everything including my passport. And I was travelling with a Xhosa local who carried a semi-automatic pistol everywhere we went. So get travel insurance. It's mostly sold under "World Wide" policies. You're worth it.
Cultural Awareness
If you are from the west or other rich country it's almost inevitable that local people will have certain perceptions of you. The most commonplace is that you are rich. If you're white it's even worse and they might assume you have a dollar tree growing in your garden. Remember a lot of these people are broke, in countries where social security is limited to running orphanages, and thousands of westerners have passed through throwing money away on silly projects or in expensive hotels. So, you're rich. Expect to be hassled and overcharged, and if you're travelling alone get a local to look after you. Taxi drivers are sometimes a good choice. On the positive side, most people will just ask for the price of a beer, which is about a dollar.
But whatever you do don't be an ass with a big head and don't treat the locals like idiots. There will be lots you might not understand but there's no excuse for treating people with a lack of respect. Mind your language; swearing is often frowned upon in many African countries.
Visa
In most cases you'll need a visa when travelling to an African country. These can be bought in advance at the relevant embassy or consulate in your home country, and often can be bought at the border when you arrive, although sometimes there are long queues which can be worrying if you've got a connecting flight. Visas can cost more than 65 dollars depending where you go, and generally you can pay in Euros, Pounds or Dollars. If in doubt, take dollars. If you want to be safe you might want to get your visa in advance, especially if your country has poor relations with the country you are visiting. Most visitor visas will be issued for up to three months, or the duration of your stay.
Avoiding Trouble
There's a few of things you can do before and after you get into trouble.
Information: Tell people where you are going and when you'll be back. If you're going for a long time then inform the embassy or consulate on your arrival of your stay in the country. Tell your friends or family back home where you'll be staying.
Documents: Make two photocopies of your passport - the identity page, and if relevant, any visas you need. If it gets stolen then a photocopy is often good enough to prove who you are to get an emergency replacement. Leave one copy at home, and take another with you. If you have a driving licence take this also, as it can be considered evidence of identity if your passport goes missing.
Mobile phones: get your phone unlocked - that's network unlocked - so any SIM card in the world will work in it. Buy a local SIM card when you get there - they are usually pay as you go, and cost about £1-10. Then SMS your family back home to give them your number there. They can use a cheap international call service to get hold of you if necessary. Get the emergency number for your local embassy or consulate on the phone so you can call your country representatives if necessary.
Money: Western Union offices are all over the place in Africa. It's a growth industry. So if you get robbed or need money in a hurry, you can get someone in your home country to send it to you. They can SMS the details to you on your local phone number, but you'll need some ID to pick it up, and they may ask you a test question ("What's your dog called?", for example).
Police:If you get into trouble with the police then stay calm. Sadly, a lot of police officers are very poorly paid and only too happy to take a bribe. If you've been really criminal then you are certainly in trouble so insist on your right to see your ambassador or consul. If it's something petty or something you've just been accused of for the hell of it, it will almost certainly be easier to pay whatever is needed to have the matter buried. HOWEVER WE ADVOCATE THAT YOU DO NOT BREAK THE LAW WHEREVER YOU GO, and you should know differing laws for where you go. For example, in a lot of African countries homosexuality is illegal. Information such as this is held in country reports that we discussed earlier.

Travel to Europe-exploring Scandinavia

The different cultural background that we in Europe can find makes it a very difficult choice to get to know which sites we want to visit. In this article I will talk about the region, Scandinavia or the Nordic countries, to help you decide on your route by providing the details about what you can expect to travel to this area. We consider the Scandinavian countries like Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Norway.
Scandinavia is totally a world apart. The most important things that happen in Europe happen there in a different way, and normal before they arrive in Europe. Even if the population of the four countries together not even summarize the population in Spain, does the economic strength of the 4 countries always been incredible.
The past that they share is fully Viking, to say it in a polite world. One of the most developed and respectful communities nowadays used as some of the most barbarians in the whole continent. When the Vikings sailing upstream between the rivers with their Drakkars arrived, all cities burned, raped women and killed everything there breathed.
Nowadays, gives a walk through the streets in Stockholm, Sweden, the most relaxed atmosphere that you can ever feel. The main difference that the Nordic region has is just this spirit. Peace and quiet, main cities which are much more like cities that have grown a little too much to be considered simply cities. The most pure air throughout Europe can be found here, so breathe deeply and you'll feel invigorating energy within.
Some of the most educated and respectful population can also be found here, and if you take a closer look will everything clean and tidy. Anyway, there are differences, special thanks to the various taxes between the 4 countries. Norway has just so much oil that no one would really need to work to survive. Money is just below the surface of the ocean, by their coasts. Sweden, even if not many rich, has the status of a very fashionable city. Not a bad zones exist in the big cities, and everyone is able to live, at least with as little as possible.
Finland and Denmark, are probably more in the door to mainland Europe. Even if their economic position remains high, a quick look around will tell you that the amount of money to invest in the city is not that much. At the same time, and this may be more confusing, Finnish and Danish people are not so much in the trendy style which, for example, Sweden.
When it comes to tourist attractions, you must first place to go Stockholm, who secretly is admired by their other three competitor capitals. Stockholm can be considered the capital of Scandinavia. The Centre of the city feel Bewitched, strategically placed on a very small island. The rest is all surrounded by water, the city of Stockholm, formed by an amount of 18 islands. Bridges from here and there, old green and gold roof churches and cathedrals, a medieval castle and some beautiful palaces. Stockholm is a city you have to go through, please visit the huge parks and protected nature zones.
A trip to the North can be a good opportunity to see the northern lights in the city of Kiruna, and also visit the Ice Hotel. Built of ice, it is rendered annually for safety reasons in the summer, and every winter again rebuilt by various architects and designers
On the right side, Helsinki, in Finland, is also a very beautiful city, but it does not yet have the same strength. In any case some amazing white palaces can be found, and as always in the entire region, the parks and gardens are some of the best places. Visiting Lapland in the North is perhaps one of the most interesting and freezing experiences you can have, as it is said that Santa Claus there a cottage!
On the left this time, we find the capital Oslo, Norway, and it happens almost the same as with Helsinki. Even with the magic of every Nordic capital, there is something missing that is not the feeling of Stockholm. Instead, what I would always recommend is to go for a visit to the city of Bergen, the gateway to the fjords. That precious fjords in Norway between some of the most spectacular natural attractions in the world. Probably not as much as compared with those in New Zealand, but still nature there has gone crazy and has created a paradise for lovers of hiking. Climb to the North, you will have the opportunity to reach even the North Cape.
Denmark, possibly to natural sights, a bit less interesting related offers a wonderful city where bicycles are probably the most you will find tourist attraction. They are simply everywhere! Copenhagen and siren have something of real beauty with the colored houses along the canals. Christiania, the hippie city, also gives a different atmosphere during your visit. At the same time, it is probably the place where you will be able to learn more about the past of the Viking civilization and their sails the rivers Drakkars. You should take a look at the near City of Roskilde to get to know that.
Round, for lovers of green islands surrounded by pure water, fresh air and frigid temperatures, your site is probably Scandinavia. Simply put more clothes on for the rest of you, and start there as well or you will be much missing.

Tips for traveling through Europe using European train travel

If you want to travel through Europe and wondering how I get on, travel by bus or trein's going to be your best bet, especially if you're from the US and are planning a visit to the United Kingdom. The EuRail planning is very lenient for most countries and is easy to use, but it's wise to plan ahead when using European train travel not only for the peace of mind, but to save your cash for souvenirs.
Why? If you live in the United States most of the roads are very wide and straight. In the United Kingdom, if you loose the highways (which you will have to do), the roads are often narrow, winding and hilly. Of course there's the added benefit of having to stop suddenly because of the odd herd of cattle or sheep crossing! Cyclists are another problem that many international visitors will not be used to treat. Therefore, unless you're experienced in yourself driving in the United Kingdom, you are advised to use the British Rail system or coach travel services.
Getting around on the British Rail travel system can be a bit daunting, while the trains often run late, at certain times are crowded and not always so quick. That said, the service has improved significantly in recent years and there are a lot less problems. If you already plan to travel through Europe with the help of the railway systems, then you will find the British Rail staff are mostly friendly and helpful and most of the trains are comfortable with the usual facilities including dining cars for that all important snack.
Using the EuRail scheme, you can book easily online using whatever currency available for you and a EuRail pass allows you to travel seamlessly by countries in Europe with the exception of a few countries such as the United Kingdom and Switzerland where you'll have to separate booking. Booking separately in the individual countries can be completed online and again will save you time and money. This is bound to be the best option if you only want to visit two or three countries.
European train travel is of course a bit hampered by the lack of complete unification and the differences between countries in terms of the development of the railways. For example, Germany, has one of the best services in the world and now you can whizz between France and the United Kingdom through the channel tunnel. This is much better and faster than having to travel on the ferries. Hopefully, when you travel through Europe, you'll have no trouble, but if you're willing to do a little research and advance than your trip should be much smoother and more enjoyable.

If you're planning your trip, there is much that you need to know in advance as finding out about the EuRail schedule. Discover more by our informative travel through Europe -Web site.

Safari, Camping long distance travel In Africa-Water security issues part I

Off-road travel, Bush wacking & Water Safety
Long distance camping trips are relatively often these days, in Africa. Unfortunately, one of the issues that arises the concern for the health risks of questionable water sources. Technology is such that there are many options now, apart from heavy water deliveries of freight transport wherever you go.
Very often water sources are very suspect and hears a horrible stories about infection and water-bourne diseases. As an "Advanced" country like South Africa can't even deliver high quality drinking water for all its inhabitants than what chance has got the African traveller to another location on the continent.
Problems that may be expected
Fecal matter infection also known as e. coli is common even in some municipal delivery. A variety of other forms of bacteria, algae and blue-green algae is an indicator of the THM or carcinogenic, natural occurring fluoride, arsenic and nitrates.
Bacteria is normally decontaminated through exposure to one of the following 3 ways: chlorine, ozone or UV is the latest technology that is now almost compact enough to be functional for the safari community.
Best options for pure Water/Healthy Water. The Pro's and con's
Right at the top of the selections got to be Reverse Osmosis that the purest form of water for the traveller. Mobile systems consist of custom designed units to fit into a Pocket, specialized systems that fit in an aluminum housing and luxury systems in the form of a reverse osmosis unit built into a can of Jerry.
Custom designed systems-bag/Component Type
Contains all the elements of a domestic unit namely sediment filter, carbon filters, Reverse Osmosis membrane with 200 gallons per day capacity, taste and smell filter and possibly UV/Ozonation. Ideally you want a booster pump delivered that works of the battery. This ' bag "units are supplied with sealed tubular filters that have a small footprint and take up much space. The booster is to water production number and has nothing to do with output pressure.
An AC/DC-converter must be purchased to drive the pump from a battery source. Don't let anyone tell you that you need the UV option for a reverse osmosis system is not! Why-well it's easy, r. O membrane stops the bacteria before it is output to the water line product although the bacteria membrane damage in the process. First; The membranes sacrifice is easier and cheaper than buying a UV system. Secondly; no r. O supplier will a system guarantees that sources water from a bacterially disadvantaged system. Not one! In addition to those covered by your filters are never a guarantee.
Reverse osmosis system in case Large, well designed, easier to store but very heavy to carry. Untidy when opened, pain way to deal with every day and expensive running for top R 7700.00
Jerry can system-6-stage reverse osmosis system Great idea has all the elements including UV plus a sieve who put a bucket of water source and pumped in either the inadequate 2 gallon tank, or directly to the tank can be. A disadvantage is that it won't fit in a standard Jerry can restraining brace on the Land rover etc. Yes, a bit stupid that one. Oops, almost forgot-damn expensive to R 6370.00
So what are the alternatives that you may ask-pretty simple really...
Easiest-use Chlorox tablets available from each store backpacking, but this just kills the insects and not for the rest of the contaminants. The same goes for boiling the water-still looks and tastes nasty.
The most practical-Build in a simple filtration system that put water under pressure that is free but small enough to bacteria that fit in the most cramped spaces. This system would consist of a 2 bar pump, modified 3 traps under counter Water filter system, some parts and a UV light.
From your existing water tank one piece Tee inserted into the line and split the filter system and UV component. The 2 bar pump pushes the water through under pressure to another T-piece that feeds your onboard water tank and the drinking taps. Water level in the tank is controlled by a simple mechanical float switch with which the stream which in turn generates a high pressure switch and the pump disconnected the connection is closed. The end product is clan, good tasting, bacteria free water.
Maintenance is inexpensive, Edition is low cost and the results are great. Contact me for personal assistance or additional information on one of these systems.

Travel South Africa Alone-where to stay, transport, make friends and secure

South Africa Travel Tips
If you're planning a trip around South Africa, you may have many questions such as how do you get around, where did you stay, how to make friends and is it safe for me to travel alone. The following information should help you make a start:
The Baz Bus
If you are traveling around South Africa, especially if you're on your own, is the best tip I can give you the use of the Baz Bus. This is a hop on, hop off bus to most of the hostels on the tourist routes. It is the easiest way to travel around South Africa. Everything you do is their phone number the night before and tell them you want to be collected the next day. The guide you when you buy a Baz bus ticket information tells you what time to expect they, you hop on, hop off at the door of your next hostel, no lugging big heavy bags around public transport, no trying to navigate your way through complex public transport systems or worry about your safety and security. This service made travel by South Africa a dream!
Most people are in the same boat
Don't worry if you're only, most other passengers to stand up and if you strike up a conversation on the bus or in a hostel, you can almost guarantee that they will be well received. No doubt you will see the same people during your trip as most tourists travelling the same route, so you'll probably be quite easily make friends. If you're a hostel and you want someone to share it with a trip and are too afraid to approach anyone, just ask the hostel owners and they will connect you with someone.
Stay in hostels
If you want to meet people, the best place to meet people is in hostels, they are cosy and fun environments with other like-minded people who also travel around South Africa. They are usually very safe and lots of information about travel arranged directly from your hostel door.
Stay safe
Although you'll be fun, you still have to ensure you are safe, and cities in South Africa can be very dangerous places. But if you keep this in mind, and stay with a group of people, stay with your guide, your hostel or on your tourist bus you should have no problems whatsoever. It is better not to walk around on your own after dark, and be careful to make money from an ATM in a group. Make sure you always the name of your hostel and contact information on you when you're out and about, and I like what cash (banknotes) and some contact information in my shoe wear, in the case my bag was stolen.

Travel to Europe-France and the Benelux

If you have decided to do a trip to Europe, whether you are a citizen of a European plan for the tour of the continent, the first decision you need to take is to know exactly what part of do you want to explore, or which cities you plan to stay in. To give a little guidance in your decision, this article looks at one of the popular regions in Europe: France and the Benelux, this last area that Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg.
One thing is for sure if you visit this area of Europe. You must be in love with tourism of the city. If your passion for the countryside, the sights, the high mountains, lakes and running crystal water flows, this is probably not your site. Of course, France has many interesting natural sites to visit, but what I really mean is that you better places to do this kind of tourism, such as Austria or Switzerland, which are discussed in another of my articles.
Again, the main attractive you will find in this region is the cities themselves. France has by far one of the most beautiful cities you encounter can, many of them with interesting cathedrals, churches and squares. From Paris, in addition to the world famous Eiffel Tower that so many tourists come to see everywhere, you can walk along the Champs Elysees, considered one of the most romantic streets in the world. Visit to the Louvre Museum gives you an insight into the past, as many treasures from around the world are kept there.
To Belgium, you will find out that Brussels is such an impressive city. It is not only the monuments, but it gives this kind of cozy feeling while walking through the narrow streets. Simply enjoy every corner and cross your fingers to claim for the weather, as it often happens that the blue of the sky will miss. Luxembourg is a very small country placed just next to Belgium, but the capital claims for himself as an independent region. Far from the size of Paris or Brussels, the many attractions.
One thing to know about this region, even if the train can transport very well, is that at the same time it will be incredibly boring. The landscape is almost always the same. Unless you're one of those rail enthusiasts, I encourage you very much one of these quick Ryanair flights to great distances. In any case, the train will be useful for short rides, or in the event that you have purchased one of these train passes for the entire region.
The parable in which all these people is their language. In any case we find very large differences between the residents. While the French nation a kind of more luxury and fashionable lifestyle, their partners in Belgium much more in the relaxed way of life. When it comes to characters, you will find the French more arrogant, while people in Belgium and Luxembourg are from my point of view the most nice guys who you can find in the whole of Europe.
Whatever you do, in short, take with you the reminder that you admire this region special architecture and beautifully designed cities with a lot of history to tell you. A bit forgotten about the natural spots, if you give them to other places in Europe you can find and. .. Practice your French!

Travel to Europe-discover Eastern Europe

Everything arranged. So, are you going to Europe this next vacations, and you have already asked for permission to work, your family agrees that this is a nice place where you can spend your holiday, and you look forward to the time to deal with our suitcases.
Good start. At least until that moment you understand Europe as a whole entity? Many times I've heard people tell me that they only want to visit Europe, and the question I ask them is: "what are you looking for?" The cultural diversity of the countries which share of this old small continent is exceptional in the whole world. In this article I'm going to address one of these sectors of Europe, the newly discovered Eastern Europe.
It is not something new, that it is not a latest trend that I am uncovering for you. Eastern Europe, is still far from a tourist hot spot if other countries in Europe, growing on his maximum potential. If one thing those countries identifies is an economic situation that almost certainly is not as good as we can expect in the rest of Europe. Nothing to do with their residents, of course, but times have come when their political alliances do not work as good as expected and right now they are on the way of development.
What you can expect in Eastern Europe, is first of all, unspoiled destinations. You have the ability to avoid mass tourism now that it is still possible and many cities with a large possibility of sights, in some cases as much as in any other tourist destination to visit. The word to describe in general the whole of Eastern Europe is "contrast".
Contrast means in fact that there are cities that are trying to find, but still not. You will find commercial centres and tall skyscrapers in the city centre, just a few 100 metres surrounded by buildings that are on the way to fall, sometimes even wall to wall. The very demanding society that closeness with Europe wants to be, compared with actual resources that these countries have, put them in a little trouble when it comes to the necessary investments for the growing cities.
Some of those countries a lot of suffering during the recent war of the world, especially all those who used to belong to the old Russia. All these countries when placed in the middle of the road, and the German troops and the allied countries created an absolute chaos in the territory. Tallin, for example, had more than 60% of its residential areas destroyed by the bombing.
If you are a little closer to Central Europe travel, you'll find countries such as Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. They are perhaps one more close to the good quality of life in Europe and the way they integrate is now very quickly. Instead, as to the South, more war problems left countries Bosnia and Serbia with destruction everywhere. Let's give them a breath and they will soon be great Nations as their inhabitants.
Even if many destroyed in some conflicts, many of the Eastern European countries, and including the city of Moscow, incredible buildings. Cathedrals, churches and palaces that a special style, sometimes with what have more Asian influence than the westernmost part of the continent.
When it comes to people, it is important to understand that war and problems faced by many of the residents in some of those countries, especially to the East and South. Even if the Centre of the city full of joy and movement, still roams the feeling a little in the air, and sometimes you have to work a little harder to win trust of someone. At the same time, it is always true in relations, once you manage to have someone open to you, easily to ever-lasting friends there.
Finish with all of this, a trip to Eastern Europe in one side will be exactly the same as any other part, on condition that the cultural diversity and architectural skill enough to keep every tourist occupied for a long time. It's good to get insight into what happened in all regions in the early events to understand the contrasts you will find from the past. Keep an eye on safety, such as poverty more than in other European regions, but after your sanity, I would not think it is a dangerous region is expanded.
