Koh Tao
A backpacker Island where everyone comes to dive and mainly to learn how to dive. There are some great beaches here and also a good nightlife.
Koh Pan gan
This is the party island of Thailand and where the famous Full Moon party is held each month. This if you have not heard is one big crazy party on a beach which attracts at least 10,000 people each month to get as fucked up as possible. Get here a few days early during the peak months if you want to get accommodation though.
Koh Samui & Phuket
These islands are crammed full of package holiday tourists on their yearly holiday for 2 weeks in the sun. I would strongly suggest avoiding these two islands.
Koh Phi Phi
This island did get severely damaged by the Tsunami and having seen the before and after myself it truly is remarkable how quickly is has got back onto its feet. There is one main area/town where everybody stays but it's still big enough not for everyone to be on top of each other. The Beach is like a postcard or you can get a boat to the lagoon where the Leo Dicapro film 'The Beach' was filmed and chill there for the day.
Vietnam
Vietnam was ravaged by war but is now a great place to visit. I suggest starting your trip off in Hanoi and working your way down the country.
Hanoi
Hanoi is the capitol of Vietnam and is a great introduction into the Vietnamese way of life. The city is always bustling and careful when crossing those roads as those motorbikes don't stop.
The city center is located around Hoan Kiem lake, just of the lake is the old quarter which is the main area for budget hostels and guesthouses. Hanoi is a great place to just go out and wander. Each street has its own trade and each shop will only sell products to do with that trade so you end up having streets only selling shoes or kitchenware. It's weird to see but that's the way they do it.
If you get tired and hot whilst walking around you can always stop off for some Bia Hoi. You will see all around the city lots of people sitting on little plastic chairs on the street, this is where they sell the Bia Hoi. This is officially the cheapest draft beer in the world. A glass should set you back about 10p/20 Cents.
Ha Long bay
This is north of Hanoi and is available from all travel agencies in the city as either overnight trip. This is a must for anyone in the area as it is UNESCO heritage site and is for a good reason.
The bay has close to 2000 limestone islands with of caves to explore and a few lagoons to go kayaking in. When you go out to the bay you go out on a traditional junk ship where you will get your own room and dinner and breakfast served.
Hoi An
Hoi An is located on the coast and actually has a pretty decent beach. It is the also the place to come for tailor-made clothes. There are too many tailors to mention here with the main road pretty much consisting of them. You can get literally anything made here all you need to do is take a photo of the item you want and they will make it for you. A good quality suit will cost around $50-$100.
Nha Trang
Is a beach resort just over halfway down the country. This city is very developed with a good long beach stretching the entire length of it. There is not much to do culturally here but it's a good place to unwind after more than a few very long bus journeys to get this far. If you choose to just relax on the beach all day the only time you need to move from it is to go to the toilet as there are so many hawkers selling you pretty much anything you require from books, drinks to a BBQ of fresh fish. There is a big nightlife here with a couple of main place to go to. These are the Why Not Bar and the Sailing Club which is right on the beach but more expensive for it.
Ho Chi Min City (Saigon)
This is the Vietnam you see in the films. Streets packed out with so many bikes, fumes that make it hard to breathe and just general chaos. There a quite a few museums here to visit which are mainly to do with the war but are all worth a visit and even the strongest man will hold back tears at the photos of the suffering they endured.
From here you do a day trip to the Cu Chi tunnels where the North had a series of small tunnels which they used to fight the south. You can go down some of these tunnels but be warned that they are very small and it's best not to do it on a hangover like I did. Also here you can fire an array of automatic weapons and rifles which is not that cheap as you pay per bullet.
Cambodia
Cambodia has had quite a nasty past with its dictator Pol Pot but is recovering maybe not as fast as its neighbors' but it is getting there. Cambodia is surrounded by Vietnam, Thailand and Laos and has the Mekong go through the country into Laos.
Phnom Penh
Is a typical Asian Capitol city, will not loads to do but getting there is a great experience if you come from Vietnam. From Saigon you can get a boat which will take you 2 days to get here but you do see some real Vietnam and Cambodia on the way.
The two main places to see in and around Phnom Penh are the Killing Fields where around 200,000 people were executed during 1975-1979 when the Khmer Rouge reigned. You can see millions of bones and thousands of skulls that have been recovered from the pits.
Also go to S-21 which used to be a high school which was converted to a prison also during the Khmer Rouge where they imprisoned up to 20,000 people and repeatedly tortured and killed from this.
Two to three times a day they show a film which goes into detail of what went on in the prison with interviews from survivors and prison guards.
Sihanoukville
Is a beach resort about 3 to 4 hours bus ride away from Phnom Penh and has a decent enough beach which all long has hostels/guesthouses, restaurants and bars where you can chat with new found friends and enjoy a nice cold beer. You can dive here but I would not waste your money as the visibility is very poor and the reefs not having much sea life.
Siem Reap/Angkor Wat
Siem Reap is the city closest to the temples of Angkor Wat. The town itself does not have much to offer apart from a market in the center of town where you can get some new clothes and souvenirs. Every night most people head down to the aptly named Bar Street to meet and hang out with friends.
The temples of Angkor are quite spectacular and are very worth the visit. You get the choice of either a 1 day or 3 day pass. It is recommended to go for sunrise over Angkor Wat as this is quite amazing but can get very busy.
There is so many temples to see here most still in great condition. Although my favorite is the one which has been taken over by the jungle and most of it are ruins.
You can either hire a tuk tuk driver to take you around which is advised if you do the one day trip or just hire a bike and go around at you own pace.
Laos
Laos is landlocked and borders Burma, China, Vietnam, Thailand and Vietnam. Laos was involved in the Vietnam War mainly due to its proximity to the country and is one of the most under developed country in the region.
Vang Vieng
The town where you leave remembering nothing. This place is just one big drunken haze. You get a tractor inner tube and float down a river and stop off at bars on route and get free shots of lao lao whiskey and then drink buckets of more lao lao whiskey and coke until 6pm then when you think you have enough you go over to an island which is just bars (smile is the best) until middnight when the curfew kicks in. Love this place :D
Try the rope swings at each of the bars. The first bar has the biggest whatever other bars may claim.
Luang Prabang
Very beautiful town and is very quiet compared with Vang Vieng. The night market seems to run on forever with lots of goodies. Also if you go here you have to go bowling one evening after 11pm - you will see what I mean.

Soaked to the skin after standing in a pouring rainstorm for an hour on a dirt road leading up to the Phnom Tameo wildlife refuge.
She was one of dozens. An old woman amidst children, handicapped and struggling. All lining the road to the 30-minute drive which led to the animal park. They came from the city on weekends, we were told, in hope of gathering a few Riel from visitors who took pity on their plight.
And take pity we did. How could you not? Here were we, four comfortable westerners from across the world, where we live in a world of plenty, spending $30 on a day's tuktuk ride to the park. How could we close our eyes and our hearts to people who had broken arms, crippled backs and unseeing eyes and whose sole hope lay in the kindness of strangers?
It had started as an outing to the zoo and turned into something so much more.
The wild tigers, eagles, bears and elephants we saw were magnificent but they paled in significance to the impact of the human sights we were exposed to.
And, every time we handed over a small offering to a person on the road, the same thing happened. They smiled. Wrinkled faces softened, tiny brown eyes sparkled and old men bowed their heads in gratitude.
As we drove along, humbled by the sight, we asked ourselves "What do they have to smile about?". And every time, they smiled.
Later, our tuktuk driver, Som On, made an unscheduled stop on the way back to Phnom Penh. He wanted us to see his home.
We pulled into a driveway and walked with him as he tentatively wove a path through an alleyway in a city suburb. His 8-year-old son stood naked ahead of us as he poured buckets of water over his body and giggled as we said hello. Som On led us into a doorway where his wife greeted us in their home - a dark room half the size of our bedroom, one tiny window with bars and a thin linoleum floor.
They beckoned us to sit on the floor mat, brought us bottles of cold water and plugged in two floor fans to cool us. Som On apologized they had nothing to give us and told us he lived here with his wife, two children and younger brother and was saving to build a house on a plot of land he'd bought five years earlier. It was his dream to build this house and was hoping to save the $4,000 he needed in the next year.
After we spent a few minutes of socializing with his family, Som On whisked us off to see his land. Driving through a garbage-strewn alleyway off the main street, he pulled up in front of a tiny sandy heap. A space smaller than the space I used to park my car back home. This was his land. The place he hoped to create a home for his family.
Our hearts ached for him and for the people we'd seen on the road to the animal refuge. Gentle, kind souls who reached out to us and lived lives so far removed from our existence. A silence descended upon us as we drove the rest of the way home, trying to digest and find some semblance of reason in the experiences of the day.
As for Som On - He smiled.

Travel by Thailand's a great experience, is a large public transport and roads are in excellent condition. A great way to some who see landscape is to hire a motorbike. Rent a bike check it thoroughly, this is easy enough to say, but important points as does the odometer or fuel device work be handy come later in the journey, in particular, when travel great distances. The motorcycles in Asia are a little different with both brakes built a hand brake (front wheel) and foot the other a brake (rear). China
China is a very diverse country and the Chinese lead a completely different way of life in the West, making it a great experience to travel. Sleeper trains and buses are frequent, as the local Chinese to wake up at the destination.
Have a good tip, I learned during the ride in China on sleeper transport, is never to form the bottom bunk bed. The reason is that on many overnight trains and buses the people love their garbage on the floor of the bus or train to dispose of. This means that if you sleep on the lower bed you thrown past are likely to have trash to you during the night. This is not so bad to treat, but last time nuts is an other Chinese food and spits out the seed package on the floor together with spit an interesting experience makes bunk below. A bunch of garbage and spit on the floor by the bed not exactly either wake up help.
Laos
Laos is to visit a land very beautiful, although still primitive and transport from villages usually done on converted trucks with benches in the back for customers to sit. Try to avoid, traveling on this mode of transport in the coming or passing through fishing villages heading in the central cities, especially in the morning. The reason for this is because the villagers tend to their product is mainly fish, including fish to sell dried in the cities. This can test person for a very unpleasant experience, as the truck is never really complete and enough is sitting for hours next to baskets with fresh and dried stinky fish to the stomach.
Cambodia
When in Cambodia travel, as the locals to take taxis, as faster than the buses are and manage better to avoid the potholes. The only problem with this is that, what has being in the West a normal five door car with two seats in the front and three in the back in Cambodia is sometimes eight people. The Cambodian are four in the back and three fit or sometimes even four in the front. If a taxi it then holds eight people place would be four in the back and two in the front passengers, a different passenger would then sit in the driver's seat and the driver would take up to the passenger, supported to hold the wheel with his foot at an angle, the pedals to achieve squashed against him. This would be impossible in a manual car, but some how it is managed in an automatic. Trip like this is extremely dangerous and not recommended.
It gives off a common place where taxis drive and they do not drive until they are full. One way to get around this is to buy two or even three places, effectively means in more comfort and security of travel, as this that means fewer people in the taxi.

Karen is a very large hilltribe ethnic group in North Thailand and account for almost half of the entire hilltribe people found. They live in many provinces along the western border of Thailand and also in Thailand. Tribe are the Karen from Burma and the Thai-Burmese border. In recent years they have further to Thailand to avoid political turmoil. The Padong and the famous "long neck" include the Karen group ethnic group symbolised by the narrow bronze rings, which they wear around their necks. Karen settlements are usually at a lower height as other hill-tribe - 500 m ü. m. and often are in Valley areas. Move location not often and many villages were in the same place for hundreds of years. You are adept at the weaving mill, with the women weave while the men weave large baskets for rice or cloths sarongs and clothing.
Akha
The Akha are believed to originate from southern China or Tibet. Linguistically they are Tibeto-Burman group and they refer to the Lolo tribes of Yunnan (South China). The Hani tribe in Yunnan province is very similar to the Akha. The most Akha in northern Myanmar, North Western Laos and Northern Thailand; be found that would support the view that they migrated south of Tibet and China. Various Akha groups can have their costumes and headdress with various different patterns on their coats and different shaped headdress are distinguished. The Akha would prefer, at an altitude of about 1,000 m life. You practice shifting cultivation dry rice, cereals, vegetables, peppers and beans grow and rearing of livestock. You believe gates in all kinds of spirits and village you will find at the entrance to every Akha village on both ends which is said to protect the village from the many spirits outside. Hmong
The Hmong groups are distributed in many countries, including China, Laos, Viet Nam and Thailand and can be divided into subgroups that can be defined by their different styles and colours of clothes. Lahu when translated means hunters and they are indeed great hunters, with men in the forest, sometimes for many days at a time is on the hunt. Clan did not play a large part in Lahu villages and the headman has the most makes with rules of the village is decided by consensus. The Lahu as remain mobile and if you were not the rules of a village as they move easily and find another, this is not as a problem seen, as all but an extended family considered the villages.
Yao
Yao (mien) are very similar to the Hmong and are part of the Austro-Thai linguistic group. Their culture is similar to the Chinese to celebrate the same new year's day, and they use Chinese characters to collect traditional songs and legends. Many Yao speak also Yunnan or Mandarin, they are in Guangxi, Yunnan and Guangdong Province, China, as well as Viet Nam, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand found. Yao households are generally a large extended family and how the Hmong; Yao men may take more than a woman. In the past, the Yao were highly mobile, always in search of better land. Yao set their villages at high altitude and will be located under a different tribe. The women in needlework and embroidery, with men large silversmiths are again such as the Hmong.
KATU
The Katuic Group found primarily in Viet Nam, but also across the border of Laos in the provinces of Xekong and Savanakhet, they live in mountain regions and are part of the Mon-Khmer-Division of the Austro-Asiatic family. Women take responsibility for the budget and the education of children, and much of the agricultural work. Men are the decision makers and keep the right in the House.
Alak and Lav
Again, the part of the Mon-Khmer of branch of the Austro-Asiatic language family. You life on the mountain slopes at an altitude of 600 m. You practice slash and Agriculture and the Alak group to burn, the gap between the province of Attapeu, Salavan, Champasak and Xekong find vault in the South of Laos to the Bolaven plateau.

Whenever you are planning a long haul trip it can be difficult to know where to begin when organising transport in and around your chosen destinations. South East Asia has recently opened itself up to a huge global travel market and as such transport possibilities are evolving and improving all the time. There are, however, a few rules of thumb that might just help to make your life a little easier.
The first big journey is what you want to book first. The biggest and best connected airports in South East Asia are to be found in Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh (though the airport still uses the city's former name, Saigon), Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. Depending on your onward trajectories and how long you wish to spend in your city of arrival, these cities will all offer you a range of possibilities for onward journeys. Furthermore, they all offer direct flight services from selection of airports across the UK, eliminating the need for tiresome and time-consuming connections. There are many great long haul flight deals to be found online.
Once you are in South East Asia you usually have the choice between travelling by internal flights within the region or taking a bus. In Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore and parts of Thailand, rail travel services are also available.
Useful airlines to remember are Jet Star - Singapore's budget airline, connecting a range of South East Asian cities - and Air Asia - another cheap and cheerful choice, operating mostly out of Kuala Lumpur. Whilst smaller South East Asian airlines have not always enjoyed favourable reputations (or health and safety records) they are now almost all operating in accordance with global air travel standards. If you are in any doubt about the services you are reserving, check out online reviews and air traffic safety sites for the latest information.
Overland travel is, of course, more time consuming, but it may allow or inspire you to make a few interesting stops along the way. It will give you a glimpse of many different kinds of South East Asian societies, away from the bustling, and comparatively affluent, cities. When travelling by bus, be sure to take plenty of water, insect repellent and, where possible, a well charged iPod. You will never get a straight answer when you ask how long your journey might take.

Cambodia - Phnom Penh
The capital city of Cambodia is Phnom Penh and it is the industrial, cultural, tourist and historic centre of Cambodia. Phnom Penh was once known as the "Pearl of Asia", as it it known had built many buildings as part of the French colony as Indo-China in the 1920s. The city itself was founded in the middle ages and has many nice properties then back to this era, as the influence of European architecture during the Renaissance and classical music eras.
The major boulevards of Phnom Penh are riddled with buildings from these different architectural traditions. Phnom Penh is the most modern of Cambodian cities and has very interesting architecture is a mixture of old tradition and modern needs.
It is a National Museum and a Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, the earlier a Khmer Rouge prison.
Viet Nam - Hanoi
Hanoi is the capital of Viet Nam and it is surely to be one of the great places in South East Asia. Hanoi is an ancient city and was important for Viet Nam 1010 ad down. The city is exactly 1000 years old in October 2010 and for this reason it is filled with many historical and cultural activities and festivals, that there will be a good reason, at this time for tourists. Hanoi was a part of French Indochina, but gained independence in 1954.

Malaysia - Kuala Lumpur
Kuala Lumpur is only about 150 years old, but it is one of the most staggeringly beautiful modern cities in Southeast Asia. The skyline of Kuala Lumpur is one of the most unique all over the world. The Petronas Twin Towers look like glass towers glow in the night and make the perfect setting for the skyline, which is closed at the other end of the Kuala Lumpur Tower.
Kuala Lumpur is also a hub in South East Asia for travel and because of this multicultural tradition has developed many. Everything is in Kuala Lumpur.
Singapore - city Singapore
Republic Singapore is a town in South East Asia is a transport hub and a confluence of many traditions. The population is mainly ethnic Chinese or native Indonesian, however they are influenced those of Buddhism and Islamic traditions, as well as Christian.
Singapore is one of the most popular tourist destinations in South East Asia and also one of the most developed countries around the world.
We had heard stories about the comfort of the railway in Thailand, travel, so we decided on the go try it from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. The alternatives in this long night journey were a private hut in first class or "behind the scenes" in a second class compartment. We chose the cheaper second class.
We on board the train and found our compartment. Sitting face to face on the padded seats we wondered us as she could be transformed in beds. Since made the air conditioning of the freezing cold, we put on pants and long sleeved shirts immediately.

It is easy by train travel from Singapore to Malaysia. On the other hand, if you want to cross the border only, a bus is cheaper.
If you really want to like trains and some simple sights, you can reserve a place in the Eastern & Oriental Express, which runs between Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok. Luxury..... .and for the budget traveller only in the form of glossy brochures possible.
From the capital of Laos, Vientiane (from the Thai side of the border, to be exact) is a well functioning railway connection to Bangkok. Laos has good functions no railway system, but the river traffic.
The main line of the Vietnamese railway operates between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) close to the sea. The journey time between the two cities is c. 30 hours, as well as potential delays. The night trains have soft sleepers (air-conditioned) and hard sleepers with cabins for four and six or. There is no separate rooms for men and women and no seats in the sleepers. Our tickets for the night train were cheap and the price includes a small bottle of water, breakfast and lunch.
There was no dining car, but a waiter was the sale of beer and soft drinks. The cars and the cabins were clean and safe thanks to the numerous employees. They were of uniform in the course and stern-on the search, and we have found that Western tourists on the hat, were making.
The native took their tea in their cabins, fetching hot water by the person responsible for the subject. We slept in the Vietnamese night train - with our clothes on under a thick blanket, no warm hats were needed. We of beautiful Vietnamese music and the smell of breakfast were awakened in the morning.
A useful tip about rail travel in Viet Nam: checks the train tickets if you go to the waiting room or the platform; on the train, it is sometimes modified for a "traveler's card"; upon arrival on leaving the platform, it is taken away. So take good care of your ticket.
In Southeast Asia the trains are cold, especially the air-conditioned, and there is a strong draught. To install a knitted CAP, a silk scarf and warm clothes and keep at hand.
How to move from place to place by air is fast and easy, no one can deny that but travel is by train cheaper and often more fun. We feel, it is certainly the choice of real travellers.

The South East Asian region of the world - especially Thailand, Viet Nam, Cambodia, and Laos - has become increasingly popular as a destination for those travelers seeking a more adventurous holiday than can be had merely sipping fruity, ice cold drinks at your typical beach resort. However, to adventurous trip to these developing countries raises many questions and one of the first is what route to take, which I will try to answer in this article.
Most people with enough time taste would like to get a for all four that I?ve mentioned earlier, so I?ll concentrate on a route that includes all of them. It would take about three months if you spent a few days at each stop. Keep in mind that there certainly are options available that would allow you to skip countries or even shorten the trip to fit into a more constrained timeline, but this should give you a good starting point for further research.
As far as getting around, travel by public bus, train, and boat is readily available and often full of adventure after all, traveling with a busload of chickens or the occasional box of frogs just adds to the fun, right? However, those looking for a little more comfort will usually be able to find more upscale options.
Many people that intend on doing a circuit though South East Asia will fly into Bangkok since it is a major hub. Bangkok is so rich with markets, temples, and plenty of fabulous food. Around Bangkok, there are several options for some side trips which allow you to get your feet wet. Kanchanaburi is a few hours away and is the location of the infamous bridge over the River Kwai and the death railway, the Yerevan National Park, and the three pagodas pass near the Myanmar border. If you are not going to the southern islands, but wouldn?t mind checking out the beach scene, you could'nt so take a few days and visit Ko Samet or Ko Chang (less expensive) to get a taste of island life. Both are only a few hours from Bangkok by bus.
Once you?ve had your fill of the Bangkok area, work your way north to Chiang Mai. I like the train and it can be taken overnight, for those low on time, or during the day for those that wish to see some of the beautiful countryside. Chiang Mai is much less hectic than Bangkok, has some opportunities for great sight seeing, and also has a great cooking school! If you want to check out some smaller towns in Thailand, you can do that from Chiang Mai with a little add-on side trip. It?s a loop that goes by public bus to the wonderful village of Pai which is set up in the misty valleys that are loading with lush rice paddies, and then continues by bus or boat to Mae Hong Son, then by bus back to Chiang Mai.
In any case, from Chiang Mai, continue your journey north to Chiang Rai and onwards to Chiang Khong, which is the jumping point into your second country, Laos. You cross the Mekong River with a short boat ride and enter Laos on the opposite bank at Huay Xai. From there you immediately continue on to Luang Prabang by slow boat or almost boat (latter not recommended, unless you enjoy wearing a crash helmet), making of optional ideal stay in the rustic village of Pacbeng.
After spending a few days in Luang Prabang you could do a side trip up north, exploring the small northern villages of Laos for a few days, or just head down to the chilled-out town of Vang Vieng by bus or air. The road route to Vang Vieng is sometimes the target of bandits, so be sure to check what recent activity has been like, and then make your decision - but the safety record of air travel may not be much more inspiring!
Vang Vieng is full of fun kayaking, biking and caving opportunities, so you?ll want to plan for a few days there before of Vientiane moving on to the capital city. It doesn?t seem too exciting for a capital city, so I wouldn?t plan to spend too much time there, other than to visit the strange but interesting Buddha Park.
Take the bus from Vientiane to Hanoi via the mountains and the CAU Treo border crossing into Viet Nam. Hanoi is a very interesting place with lots to do and so offers a few interesting side trips: Sapa is a beautiful village set in the mountains, and Halong Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage site, offers amazing views of thousands of mountainous karsts jutting up from the ocean waters.
In Hanoi, you can buy at ?Open Tour? bus that gets you ticket all the way south to Ho Chi Minh (Saigon). It has a standard set of stops, but allows you to purchase addons for a few dollars each, two of which I highly recommend being Ninh Binh and Dalat. From Hanoi, the first stop will indeed be Ninh Binh. Not a particularly touristy town, but the launching point to visit the decharge TAM COC park and / or the CUC Phuong National Park.
From Ninh Binh, move to hue for a day or two, then on to Hoi an to check out the amazing tailors and beaches, then to Nha Trang (a partying beach town that can be skipped if you wish), and then on to your second add-on which is the mountain town of Dalat. > from Dalat, you can do another addon stop in MUI ne which is very quiet and good if you just want to relax and maybe poke around the local market a little bit.
The last stop in Viet Nam will be Ho Chi Minh which offers plenty to see and do including a massage at the Vietnamese traditional medicine Institute for a couple of dollars. From there, you can cross into Cambodia in a couple ways. The first is a bus ride through some beautiful country to Phnom Penh, and the second is a boat tour through the Mekong Delta which also deposits you in Phnom Penh. Be warned though: the roads in Cambodia are dirt and very slow going, but the scenery is incredible if your back can take it.
Phnom Penh gets mixed reviews but does have a couple of must visits before you continue: the killing fields and S-21. When you do move on, you again have the choice of bus or boat up to Siem Riep. I prefer the bus because of the fantastic views and the insight into the lives of the country folk - trust me, you?ll never forget it.

Food Poisoning: Salmonella is the most common cause of food poisoning during your travel. It is caused by a bacteria found in chickens and therefore in egg products. Fresh-cooked eggs are rarely a problem, but dishes such as cheesecake and meringue pie commonly support the growth of salmonella. It's best to avoid these two treats. The symptoms of salmonella are severe stomach cramps, diarrhea, vomiting, fever, and chills. Luckily, these all pass within 24 hours. Anti-diarrheal drugs such as codeine, Imodium, and Lomotil should never be taken if salmonella poisoning is suspected. To treat salmonella, drink as much liquid as possible.

The problem is that amoebas are often difficult to detect. If left untreated, they will migrate to the liver and cause damage, so it is very important that you let your doctor know that amoebic dysentery is a possibility should you develop diarrhea after leaving these Countries. Symptoms of amoebic dysentery include abdominal pain, diarrhea (frequently with blood or pus in the stool), lethargy, and fever. The recommended treatment for amoebic dysentery is tinidazole. In the United States, where tinidazole is not available, Flagyl is the recommended drug.
Giardiasis: Another cause of long-term diarrhea, giardiasis is caused by a protozoan and is quite common. Giardiasis is spread by water and food that has been contaminated with the cysts of the giardia organism; it has an incubation period of 7 days. Therefore, if you develop diarrhea on your second or third day of Traveling South Asian Subcontinent, giardiasis is not the cause. Common symptoms of giardiasis are a violent bubbling in the intestines accompanied by pain in the upper part of the abdomen. Diarrhea may come and go and often occurs only in the morning. Should you develop diarrhea after returning home, it is important that you tell your doctor that giardiasis is a possibility. In the United States, giardiasis is usually treated with the drug Flagyl, but in south Asia, the recommended treatment is tinidazole (marketed as Tiniba).
