South Africa Travel Tips
If you're planning a trip around South Africa, you may have many questions such as how do you get around, where did you stay, how to make friends and is it safe for me to travel alone. The following information should help you make a start:
The Baz Bus
If you are traveling around South Africa, especially if you're on your own, is the best tip I can give you the use of the Baz Bus. This is a hop on, hop off bus to most of the hostels on the tourist routes. It is the easiest way to travel around South Africa. Everything you do is their phone number the night before and tell them you want to be collected the next day. The guide you when you buy a Baz bus ticket information tells you what time to expect they, you hop on, hop off at the door of your next hostel, no lugging big heavy bags around public transport, no trying to navigate your way through complex public transport systems or worry about your safety and security. This service made travel by South Africa a dream!
Most people are in the same boat
Don't worry if you're only, most other passengers to stand up and if you strike up a conversation on the bus or in a hostel, you can almost guarantee that they will be well received. No doubt you will see the same people during your trip as most tourists travelling the same route, so you'll probably be quite easily make friends. If you're a hostel and you want someone to share it with a trip and are too afraid to approach anyone, just ask the hostel owners and they will connect you with someone.
Stay in hostels
If you want to meet people, the best place to meet people is in hostels, they are cosy and fun environments with other like-minded people who also travel around South Africa. They are usually very safe and lots of information about travel arranged directly from your hostel door.
Stay safe
Although you'll be fun, you still have to ensure you are safe, and cities in South Africa can be very dangerous places. But if you keep this in mind, and stay with a group of people, stay with your guide, your hostel or on your tourist bus you should have no problems whatsoever. It is better not to walk around on your own after dark, and be careful to make money from an ATM in a group. Make sure you always the name of your hostel and contact information on you when you're out and about, and I like what cash (banknotes) and some contact information in my shoe wear, in the case my bag was stolen.
